Top 10 Home Repair Tasks You Shouldn't Ignore
We called for a quote on a deck with a access ramp for my Dad who had a stroke a couple years ago.

He came out and also gave us a few ideas of adding a gate to be able to keep dogs on the porch. He was very knowledgeable and the deck turned out amazing!!!

Had the job done in 2 days and was out in less than a week to start it
We are getting ready to start. So far they have been very knowledgeable and easy to work with. They have taken time to listen to our concerns.
Response from the owner:Thank you for the positive feedback! We’re glad to hear you’ve had a great experience so far. We look forward to continuing to work with you!
I dealt with Michaela at gateway home services and she was very thorough with sending me the right people to install my new doors for my home
Ethan from Gateway Home Services has worked on my property three times now for different fixes and projects. He has done great work and has fixed items such as an old pocket door, and a fuse in the electrical box. He really knows his stuff! I can’t wait to hire them again for more projects around the house.
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled to hear that Ethan was able to assist you with your projects. He really does take pride in his work, and we’re grateful for your trust in Gateway Home Services. We look forward to working with you again on any future projects around your home!
I am impressed with the office staff at Gateway. Michaela has been so helpful with all my questions. I will definitely be using them for my home improvements.
The company provides so many home services. Would highly recommend to anyone needs services for their homes.
I can’t say enough good things about this team, responsive, thorough, professional operations while still being affordable and timely! Highly recommend. Will be bask and will be referring to my clients!
Response from the owner:Thank you for your kind words! We’re glad you had a great experience and appreciate your support and referrals. Looking forward to working with you again!
Gateway Home Services did an excellent job! Professional, efficient, and high-quality work from start to finish. Highly recommend!
Wonderful service! Very professional and knowledgeable!!
I’ll give 5-stars based on my experience with Ethan, alone. I needed a vapor barrier installed and insulation replaced after a pipe had burst under my crawl space .
I also requested that the pipes be wrapped and insulated so that they would not freeze again . The job was not done correctly at first - and when my pipes froze again I called back to gateway. They immediately booked an appt to make it right. They had another team working on that project and admitted it was not done to their standards.

Ethan arrived to fix it and was helpful about explaining exactly what happened and how he was going to fix it. I even booked another job with Ethan after that , that also went incredibly smooth.

Despite the hiccup at first, it feels so good to find someone knowledgeable and reliable! Thank you so much, Ethan!!
Response from the owner:Thank you for your honest and thoughtful review! We truly appreciate your patience and the opportunity to make things right. While we strive to get the job done correctly the first time, we also believe in standing by our work and ensuring our customers are taken care of. We're so glad Ethan was able to provide the level of service and expertise you deserve, and we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to him. If you ever need anything in the future, don’t hesitate to reach out. Thanks again for choosing Gateway Home Services!
  1. Roof Leaks: A leaky roof can lead to extensive water damage, mold growth, and compromised structural integrity. Even small leaks can worsen quickly, especially during rainy seasons. Look for signs like water stains on ceilings, missing shingles, or dampness in the attic. Addressing roof issues promptly can save you from costly repairs down the line.
  2. Foundation Cracks: Foundation problems can threaten your entire home’s stability. Watch for cracks in walls, uneven floors, or doors that won’t close properly. While hairline cracks are often harmless, wider cracks or those that grow over time require immediate attention from a professional.
  3. Faulty Electrical Systems: Electrical issues pose serious fire hazards. If you notice flickering lights, frequent circuit breaker trips, or outlets that feel warm to the touch, it’s time to call an electrician. Outdated wiring in older homes may also need upgrading to meet current safety standards and handle modern power demands.
  4. Plumbing Leaks: Even minor plumbing leaks can waste water, increase utility bills, and cause water damage. Check for dripping faucets, damp cabinet bases, or unexplained increases in water usage. Remember to inspect less visible areas like crawl spaces or basements for hidden leaks.
  5. HVAC System Maintenance: Regular heating, ventilation, and air conditioning maintenance is crucial for efficiency and longevity. Replace filters regularly, clean ducts, and have a professional inspection annually. Neglecting your HVAC system can lead to poor air quality, higher energy costs, and premature system failure.
  6. Pest Infestations: If unchecked, termites, rodents, and other pests can cause significant structural damage. Look for signs like wood damage, droppings, or unusual wall noises. Early detection and treatment can prevent extensive damage and health risks associated with pest infestations.
  7. Gutter and Downspout Clogs: Clogged gutters can lead to water overflow, damaging your roof, siding, and foundation. Clean your gutters at least twice a year, and ensure downspouts direct water away from your home’s foundation. Consider installing gutter guards to reduce maintenance needs.
  8. Chimney Maintenance: Regular chimney maintenance is essential for homes with fireplaces. Creosote buildup can lead to chimney fires, while cracks or deterioration can allow dangerous gases to enter your home. Have your chimney inspected and cleaned annually by a certified chimney sweep.
  9. Peeling Paint and Caulk: While often considered cosmetic, peeling paint and failing caulk can allow moisture to penetrate surfaces, leading to rot and structural damage. Regularly inspect and touch up exterior paint and replace cracked or missing caulk around windows, doors, and other openings.
  10. Driveway and Walkway Cracks: Cracks in concrete driveways and walkways look unsightly, can pose tripping hazards, and allow water to penetrate, causing further damage. Seal small cracks promptly, and consider resurfacing or replacing severely damaged areas to maintain safety and curb appeal.

Staying on top of these repairs can seem daunting, but it’s far more cost effective than dealing with major issues down the road. Regular inspections and prompt attention to minor problems can prevent them from escalating into expensive repairs or replacements.
